MR. C. C. "JACK" COMBS

Mr. C. C. "Jack" Combs, age 80, of Speedway Road, North Wilkesboro died Wednesday, April 18, 2007.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21, 2:00 PM at Fishing Creek Arbor Baptist Church with the Rev. David Wellborn and the Rev. Sherrill Wellborn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Combs was born in Wilkes County, July 15, 1926, to Bruce Levi and Celia Williams Combs. He was a member of Fishing Creek Arbor Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and elder. He was also the Sunday School Director for 11 years and the Adult Sunday School teacher for a number of years. He served on the building committee, cemetery committee, and pastor search committee. Mr. Combs also served as a messenger to the Brier Creek Association for 35 years and as the moderator for the Pastor/Deacon's conferences.

Mr. Combs owned East Side Used Cars and was one of the owners of the North Wilkesboro Speedway along with his brother, Charlie Combs, brother-in-law, Lawson Curry and friend, Enoch Staley. He was a charter member of the Speedway Road Ruritan Club, where he served as president and vice-president. Mr. Combs served as a Wilkes County Commissioner for 16 years, where he served as the chairman and vice-chairman. He also served on the following boards, Wilkes County Department of Social Services, Wilkes County Health Department, John A. Walker Center, Wilkes Community College, Respite Care Board and many others.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Combs was preceded in death by four brothers, Willie Combs, Charlie Combs, Roscoe "Doc" Combs, and Howard H. Combs and five sisters, Agnes Curry, Annie Mae Thomas, Texie Mitchell, Ethel Sparks, and Cora Lee Williams.

Mr. Combs is survived by his wife of 61 years, Zell Williams Combs of the home; one son, Carl Dean Combs and wife Diane of North Wilkesboro; three daughters, Norma Hayes and husband, Bill of Mechaniscville, VA, Doris Sebastian and husband, Jeral of McGrady, and Vanessa Church and husband, Larry, Sr. of North Wilkesboro; one brother, Paul Edward (PeeWee) Combs of North Wilkesboro; six grandchildren, Monica Hayes, Ty Worley, Crystal Luck, Micheal Combs, Tammy Wilson, and Wayne Church; six great grandchildren, Tyler Gregory, Dylon Wilson, Bailey Wilson, T. J. Worley, Levi Church, and Evan Church

The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 Friday, April 20, 2007.
