Mr. Thurman Guy Church, age 92, of Oak Grove Church Road, Millers Creek died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at his home.
Funeral services will be held Friday 2:00 PM, October 23, 2009 at Lewis Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Sherrill Wellborn and Dr. Dennis Love officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service.
Mr. Church was born April 5, 1917 in Ashe County to Will Dosset and Mary Phillips Church. He was owner and operator of Guy's Paint Shop and was a foster grandparent for 11 years at Woodward Middle School. Mr. Church was a member of Lewis Fork Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Coletta Ruth Baker Church.
He is survived by: one daughter, Diane Bumgarner and husband, Wade of Wilkesboro; one son, Randy Guy Church and wife, Sandra of Clayton; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Harrison of Elizabethton, TN and one brother, Kyle Church of Rock Hill, SC.
