MR. WILLIAM HENRY McCURDY, SR.
Mr. William Henry McCurdy, Sr., age 95, of Old 60 Redding Road, Wilkesboro died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 2:00, Saturday, November 7, at the First Baptist Church on Main Street with the Rev. John Speaks and the Rev. Richard Carlton officiating. Burial with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens. The family will receive at the First Baptist Church on Main Street from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service.
Mr. McCurdy was born in Wilkes County, September 14, 1914, to Nathan and Bertha Harris McCurdy. He was a deacon and a member of the First Baptist Church on Main Street. Mr. McCurdy served in the US Navy during World War II.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McCurdy was preceded in death by his wife, Luella Harris McCurdy and a daughter, Nancy Jeanette.
Mr. McCurdy is survived by four daughters, Betty Speaks and husband, Rev. John Speaks of North Wilkesboro, Bertha Watkins, Margaret Talbert both of Alexandria, VA, Lucy Gilreath and husband, John Gilreath of Wilkesboro; two sons, William Henry McCurdy, Jr. of North Wilkesboro and Kevin McCurdy and wife, Fern of Mocksville; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren.
